Apple announced the launch of CarPlay Ultra, a new generation on the mobile-connected in-car infotainment system, the company announced on May 15. CarPlay Ultra aims to redefine the driving experience with deeper iPhone integration, enhanced vehicle controls and a better seamless user interface.
The new system debuts with the latest Aston Martin vehicle orders in the United States and Canada. “Aston Martin is delighted to collaborate with Apple and be the first to launch CarPlay Ultra,” said CEO Adrian Hallmark in a statement.
Existing Aston Martin models will receive CarPlay Ultra via a software update in the coming weeks. “We are excited to kick off the rollout of CarPlay Ultra with Aston Martin — and this is just the beginning, with more automakers on the way,” Apple said in a press release.
Apple CarPlay Ultra extends across both the central infotainment screen and the driver’s instrument cluster, displaying real-time data such as speed, fuel level and navigation, along with iPhone-powered apps like Music, Maps and Podcasts. The system features customizable gauges, including speedometer and tachometer designs, tailored to reflect each automaker’s brand identity.
Drivers can control vehicle functions such as climate settings, audio systems and more using on-screen controls, physical buttons or Siri voice commands. Apple CarPlay Ultra also introduces iPhone-powered widgets, offering quick access to essential information for improved convenience and safety. Users can personalize the interface with custom colors and themed wallpapers.
Apple confirmed that CarPlay Ultra requires an iPhone 12 or newer running iOS 18.5 or later and functions exclusively via a wireless connection.
What Is Apple CarPlay?
CarPlay is a smartphone mirroring system that allows you to connect your iPhone to your car’s infotainment display. It enables safe, hands-free access to apps, calls, messages, and navigation by replicating the iPhone interface on the car’s screen, which can be controlled via touch, physical buttons, or voice commands.
