2000 – In an attempt to recapture its sports car tradition, the Celica was completely redesigned in 2000. This newest version was lighter, more compact and more powerful. When the optional power windows, power locks, cruise control and alloy wheels were added, the little sports car received rave reviews from both critics and car buyers.
1995 – Toyota made a number of design changes to this sixth generation model. The bigger Celica offered a roomier, more comfortable interior.
1990 – This fifth generation Celica included either a standard five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. While standard models only had 103 horsepower engine, upgrades offered a 2.2-liter 135 horsepower engine.
1985 - After three generations of using a rear-wheel drive design on the Celica, Toyota made the switch to a front-wheel drive system in 1985. The goal was to create a more sophisticated driving experience.
1971 – The Celica was introduced to the American market as a sports car boasting a rear-wheel drive design.
