The company was started by Spencer and Maurice Wilks, two brothers who wanted to build a vehicle that performed just as well over treacherous terrain as the American Jeep. While the first Land Rovers were built more for utility than comfort, the vehicles gradually became more consumer-focused, leading to the luxurious cabins they are known for today.
