While Isuzu has been producing cars since 1918, it really came into its own after World War II, when its vehicles played a major role in Japan’s reconstruction. By 1971, Isuzu had formed a partnership with General Motors, and four years later, Isuzu Motors America Inc. was established. In America, Isuzu’s biggest contributions were the Trooper and Rodeo, two vehicles that helped fuel the SUV craze in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
